FAQ

Common questions about the data, AI, pricing, and API. Can't find an answer? Contact us.

What is indielist?

An indie-game industry directory. We index 1,300+ games and their studios, publishers, partnerships, and funding rounds, augmented with AI-written summaries and white-box sales estimates. The goal: help indie developers, investors, and engaged players understand the indie ecosystem at a glance.

How fresh is the data?

Steam review counts and CCU snapshots refresh every 5 minutes (Worker cron); Storefront metadata, ITAD prices, and OpenCritic scores refresh nightly or weekly per source. Each game page shows the last-updated time for the price/review fields.

How accurate are the AI summaries?

AI summaries are generated from underlying factual data (review counts, genres, tags, publisher) by an LLM, then validated against ≥ 3 data points and 6 banned cliché phrases. They aim for 200-400 chars and are regenerated when underlying review counts drift > 30%. Each page shows the generation timestamp. Treat as a starting point, not authoritative.

How do you estimate sales?

White-box: the Boxleiter-derived formula is fully exposed on every estimate, with breakdown (review count → Negative-Binomial multiplier, year adjustment, price adjustment, studio-size adjustment). See /methodology for the math.

Where does the data come from?

Steam Web API (reviews, CCU, app list), Steam Storefront API (metadata), IsThereAnyDeal (price history + Game Pass), OpenCritic (professional scores), itch.io RSS, and gaming-news RSS. Crawler details and IP at /about/bot.

Is this affiliated with Steam / Valve?

No. We are an independent project. Steam data is sourced from public Valve APIs and properly attributed. See our Terms §4 for the attribution clause.

How do I claim a publisher or studio page?

Use /contact with type "Claim a publisher page" (or studio). We verify the request via your work email + a brief reply, then grant editorial access on a Featured tier subscription. Free claim with limited fields is being scoped.

How do I list as a Featured publisher?

Use /contact with type "Featured listing". $199/mo base; we onboard with a brief MSA covering content rights, refund pro-rata, and editorial guardrails. We do not Featured-promote games that conflict with editorial integrity.

What plans do you offer?

Free (browse all + 1-hop relationship graph), Starter $19/mo (developer tools), Pro $49/mo (API access + advanced search), Featured $199/mo (B2B publishers). Pricing on /pricing, subject to launch-time freeze (FD-02).

Do you have an API?

Yes, /api/v1/{games,studios,publishers}. Public read-only data is currently un-rate-limited. Pro tier will add API keys + 1 req/sec free / 60/min Pro / higher Featured. See /docs/api (coming soon).

How do I cancel a subscription?

/account → Manage subscription → Cancel. Effective end of current billing period. Within 14 days of initial payment: full refund. See /refund.

Is the AI used to track me / sell my data?

No. AI is used only to generate descriptive text from public game data. We do not use personal data to train models. No third-party analytics or trackers. See /privacy.

How do I report incorrect data?

Use /contact. For AI-summary corrections, mention the specific URL and what is wrong. For Steam-sourced facts (review count, price), please verify on Steam first, those refresh from authoritative source.

Where can I follow updates?

RSS at /articles/feed.xml. Editorial articles at /articles. Public Discord + Twitter coming soon (LS-COMMUNITY-01/02).
